A refresh of the ISTE Standards for Students is in the works! Much has changed in the education and technology worlds since the current standards were published back in 2007. We are committed to ensuring that the ISTE Standards remain relevant — even aspirational — so that they continue to serve their primary purpose of preparing students for their future. But we need your help!

How can you get involved?

  1. Tell us what you think the new standards should include, read the Food for Thought and share your feedback on the initial drafts of the refresh standards.
  2. Share the feedback survey far and wide with your network and with anyone else you think should have a voice in the refresh process.
  3. Lead refresh forums with your colleagues in meetings, at conferences or in virtual events using a DIY ISTE Standards Refresh Forum Toolkit (information below).

DIY ISTE Standards Refresh forum toolkits

For face-to-face conference sessions or meetings
These fast-paced, interactive sessions are designed to provoke lively discussions about the competencies students need to learn, earn and live in a connected world. Two designs are available: one-hour conference sessions OR 30-minute meetings.

Complete toolkits include facilitator instructions, annotated agendas, presentation slide decks, example promotional communications and more. We have designed the activities for digital or analogue, in the event that tech fails (all good facilitators have a Plan B)! And don't worry — we are available to help and ensure your success.

For virtual events
Similar in design to the face-to-face toolkits, the virtual event toolkit modularizes the content to ensure that it fits into your scheduled time, with optional activities, for whatever virtual platform you use and any target audience. The toolkit includes facilitator instructions, presentation slide deck, survey links and a facilitator feedback survey to provide us with data from your discussions.

Ready to get started?

Contact Sarah Stoeckl (sstoeckl at or 541.595.3566 to lead a refresh forum using the DIY toolkit.

If you don't want to lead a forum, you can still join one of these lively discussions at a conference, meeting or virtual event to make sure your voice is heard. Take a look at the ISTE event calendar to find out when and where ISTE Standards Refresh forums are scheduled.
