The OpenAI chatbot known as ChatGPT has the potential to not only enhance in-class learning, but it can also be a time-saving asset for busy teachers.
“Fairly soon you will be able to not just generate content but actually be able to help provide some pretty detailed and accurate feedback to help students improve,” says ISTE CEO Richard Culatta. “It’s a pretty significant time-saving element for teachers.”
Teachers can also use the ChatGPT to generate ideas, draft written communications, and help manage their time, says high school technology integration specialist and ISTE U instructor Deb Norton. For example, you can ask the chatbot to:
1. Draft an email to parents.
2. Create an initial lesson plan, which you can then build upon.
3. Summarize a novel your students are reading.
4. Create a daily schedule.
5. Generate study questions to help students prepare for an exam.
6. Create a piece of writing for students to critique or revise.
7. Generate a list of unique ways to give feedback on an assignment.
8. Suggest potential essay topics.
9. Generate articles on the same topic at different reading levels.
10. Generate practice exams and quizzes.
