Three-year collaboration will prepare thousands of Korean educators to effectively use technology through the ISTE Standards.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (JANUARY 24, 2025) – Today, ISTE+ASCD are excited to announce a landmark partnership with Korea National University of Education to support the Korean Ministry of Education’s initiative to introduce digital learning in schools nationwide. The three-year project will focus on preparing South Korean teachers to effectively use technology in education through the implementation of the ISTE Standards.

The collaboration, which aims to impact more than 9,000 educators, includes the translation and localization of the ISTE Standards for the South Korean educational system and training for South Korean educators to implement the ISTE Standards. A select group of master teachers and digital leaders will also participate in the ISTE Certification program.

“This partnership represents a significant step forward in transforming digital learning in South Korea,” said Richard Culatta, CEO of ISTE+ASCD. “By preparing Korean educators to use the ISTE Standards, we’re laying the groundwork for innovative, impactful, and enduring learning experiences that will benefit generations of South Korean teachers, and students.”

The ISTE Standards, which have been adopted by all U.S. states and numerous countries worldwide, provide a comprehensive framework for learning, teaching, and leading with technology. They outline essential competencies for educators to create high-impact, equitable learning experiences.

The agreement was formally signed on January 17, 2025, in Seoul, Korea, by Richard Culatta and Professor Wookyu Cha, President of the Korea National University of Education, with representatives from the South Korean edtech industry in attendance.
