What is the ISTE Educator Certification Program?

The ISTE Educator Certification Program focuses on pedagogy, not tools or devices. ISTE Certified Educators demonstrate mastery of the ISTE Standards for Educators. The program is designed to expand your educational practice, whether you provide learning to school-aged learners or professional development to adult learners.

How to Become ISTE Certified

  1. Select a Cohort: 
    • Review the course Syllabus and program requirements
    • Choose a start date and times that work with your schedule
    • Register
  2. Complete the 10 Week Online Professional Development Course: 
    • Participate in 3 (90 minute) virtual learning sessions
    • Complete and submit all course assignments
    • Commit to at least 40 hours of professional learning over 10 weeks
  3. Complete and Submit Your Certification Portfolio: 
    • Six months’ access to prepare and submit your final portfolio submission aligned to the ISTE Standards for Educators
    • Commit to at least 40 hours’ curation time including attending office hours and accessing support resources
    • Successfully align your instructional practices to all 25 ISTE Educator Standards Criteria
    • Earn 20 out of 25 aligned criteria to become an ISTE Certified Educator for a 3-year period

Schedule a Planning Meeting
Build a Semi-Private Cohort

Leaders who are interested in hosting a semi-private cohort for their districts can schedule a meeting with the ISTE+ASCD Credentials Team for more information and next steps.

  • Up to 5 educators can participate
  • $4,800 up to 5 educators
  • Two private office hours per cohort (in the portfolio phase)
  • Up to 3 months’ extension per participant
  • Two final portfolio reviews per participant

  • Up to 25 educators can participate for $24,500
  • Kick off planning meeting
  • ISTE-supported participant recruitment, including informational webinars for prospective participants
  • Option for 3 leaders to audit course with cohort
  • 3 district meetings to discuss participant progress

  • 2 district-only office hours during portfolio phase
