Six-book series by ed tech leader Carl Hooker offers mobile learning implementation strategies for different audiences

WASHINGTON, D.C. - October 18, 2016 - Today, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) released two new titles in its Mobile Learning Mindset series. This six-book collection by ed tech leader Carl Hooker shares advice for a successful mobile learning program tailored to individual audiences, including principals, parents and IT staff. The newest additions offer guidance for instructional coaches and teachers.

The Teacher's Guide to Implementation offers insight and inspiration to teachers who are about to participate in a mobile device initiative or already have, helping them understand how to effectively integrate technology to drive deeper learning. Through practical examples, the book addresses how to leverage mobile technology to center learning on the student, provide efficient formative assessments, and facilitate parent communication and professional development.

Among the strategies Hooker shares is the "Mobile Learning Quadrant" (MLQ), which shows how use of space, time, collaboration and content creation within the classroom can guide teachers toward new ideas for effective integration.

The Coach's Guide to Implementation provides examples and staff development activities to help ed tech coaches prepare teachers who are about to participate in a mobile device initiative or already have. Tools and activities throughout the book will help coaches model technology use and set expectations, identify stakeholders and cultivate buy-in for 1:1 initiative,; optimize team dynamics, and build a culture of creativity and shared ownership. The book also features an interview with educational technology trainer and consultant Kathy Schrock.

Hooker is director of innovation and digital learning at Eanes Independent School District in Austin, Texas. He is the founder of "iPadpalooza," a three-day learning festival in celebration of the shift iPads have brought about in education. Hooker was named a Tech & Learning Magazine's 2014 Leader of the Year and he is a member of the Apple Distinguished Educator class of 2013.
